These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Private Redaction tool ("the Tool"), made available to you as a free, experimental tool. In these Terms, "we", "us" and "our" refer to the operator of the Tool. By using the Tool, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Tool.
1. What the Tool does
The Tool helps you black out ("redact") sensitive information in documents. Your document is opened and the redacted output is produced on your own device. To identify sensitive content, the document's text is analysed by private-AI infrastructure operated via Nillion, which is designed to process that text inside secured, hardware-isolated environments. We do not store your documents.
2. The Tool is provided "as is"
The Tool is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness, security, or uninterrupted or error-free operation.
3. Automated redaction is not guaranteed
Redaction is performed automatically and may fail to detect sensitive information, may redact the wrong content, or may cover more than intended. You are solely responsible for reviewing the output before you rely on, store, share, publish, or otherwise use it. Do not rely on the Tool alone in any situation where accurate or complete redaction is legally, contractually, or commercially important.
4. Your responsibilities
You confirm that you have the right to upload and process any document you submit to the Tool, and that doing so does not infringe any law or the rights of any third party. You are responsible for your use of the Tool and for any output you generate, distribute, or retain.
5. Privacy
The Tool is designed so that your document file stays on your device and only its extracted text is analysed within secured, hardware-isolated infrastructure operated via Nillion. To reach that infrastructure, the extracted text is relayed through our own service, which handles it in transit to forward it and to verify the result; the sealed-enclave guarantee applies to the Nillion infrastructure, not to that relay. This description reflects how the Tool is intended to operate and may change as the service evolves. It is not a guarantee against every possible risk. Any separate privacy notice we publish also applies.
6. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, revenue, business, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of (or inability to use) the Tool, including, without limitation, any failure to redact, incorrect redaction, or exposure of information. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Tool shall not exceed GBP 100.
7. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses arising out of or connected with your use of the Tool or your breach of these Terms.
8. No professional advice
The Tool does not provide legal, regulatory, compliance, or other professional advice. You are responsible for determining whether your redaction meets any legal or regulatory requirement that applies to you.
9. Changes
We may modify the Tool or these Terms at any time. Changes take effect when posted, and your continued use of the Tool constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
10. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and you agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales for any dispute arising out of or relating to the Tool or these Terms.
11. Contact
Questions about these Terms can be raised via the Tool's public code repository.
